The Glensheen Garden Guild will continue, in the 2007 growing season, their efforts to bring to fruition the original plans for the formal garden, commissioned by Chester Congdon in 1916. Unfortunately, Mr. Congdon died in the late fall of 1916, and the formal garden has never been planted based entirely on these original plans. To see these plans click here. Duluth City Gardner, Tom Kasper, has taken the two versions of these original plans and melded them into one, and the Garden Guild hopes to establish that garden in conjunction with Glensheen's Centennial Celebration, going on over the next three years. Ground was broken for the Glensheen Estate in 1905, and the Congdons moved into the house in 1908. Please visit this page often for updates on our progress. |
